Blandwood Mansion - Greensboro, NC

Saturday, September 18, 2021 was Free Museum Day.  This is a day sponsored by Smithsonian Magazine that allows museums across the United States, if they want to participate, to provide free admission up to two people on a single ticket.

This year my sister and I went to Blandwood Mansion in Greensboro, home of John Motley Morehead, who was Governor of North Carolina from 1841 to 1845.

When facing it, the section on the left is the original house, a four room Federal style farmhouse constructed in 1795.  The right side is the addition built in 1822.

One of the parlors in the 1822 addition.

Admiring the detail

In the hallway between the two sections.

You can tell which is the original section because of the green wainscoting.

The dining room

After her husband died, one of the daughters moved into this small room just off of the dining room.

Master Bedroom when Governor Morehead lived here.

A winding staircase takes you to the second floor.  Mrs Morehead, private person that she was, had this staircase closed off from any downstairs visiting parties.

Second level parlor

Second floor guest bedroom on the addition side.

Children's room on the second floor of the original side.

The reconstructed kitchen is in the gift shop outside.

Herbs planted outside the gift shop.

Rosemary plant goals!

It was a good day!
