Products From NC: Sweet Potatoes - Pt 1

"If you eat a sweet potata, and you think there's nothing greata, than you've just enjoyed some products from our state."

Several months ago, my dad bought a WHOLE lot of sweet potatoes from a man he knew who grew them.  They came in abundance.  So my sister and I started finding recipes.

I thought it would be fun to post pictures of the food we made from sweet potatoes.

A Blessing From God

Several years ago, I decided I wanted a pair of boots.  I knew what I wanted and made a list of specifications:

  • Dark brown leather
  • Tall riding boot style
  • No buckles
  • Not made in China
  • Size 6 1/2

Something like this is what I had in mind.

After scouring the internet and stores, and being told by a sales person I probably would have trouble  finding any due to my size which is a narrow, I decided there weren't any available.  The ones I had tried on were too tall, or too wide and were awkward to walk in.

To get what I wanted, I probably would have to get them custom made or pay $$$, which I really didn't want to do.  I was okay with not finding any, and told myself I could live without boots.  I knew my expectations were high, but I wouldn't be happy with something different than what I had in mind.

Last Friday, after work, I stopped by Mega Thrift in Winston-Salem to look at their clothing.  I wasn't planning on looking at the shoes, and had forgotten about the boots I wanted, but I wandered to that side of the store, and looked at the shoes that were in my size.  There, sitting on the shelf, I saw these brown boots.  I tried them on and they were perfect!  Just my size and not too tall, and the best part of all - the price $5.99!

All of my specifications were right there:
  • Leather Upper
  • Made in Brazil (not China)
  • Size 6 1/2

A not-so-great self photo of boots on me.

I am so thankful that Jesus knows our desires and gives us blessings!  Every time I wear these, I'll remember that Jesus loves me and cares about little things.

Our State

From the mountains, through the Triad, to the coastline white with foam - I love calling North Carolina Home!

Last evening I went to hear Amy Wood Pasquini, marketing development director of Our State magazine, at the public library.  She spoke about the magazine, and told interesting stories and fun facts of people and places in the state.
