Washington, NC

I'm finally getting around to posting pictures from the last day our three day vacation.

The morning of Wednesday, July 27, J and I began our day by checking out of our hotel and then getting coffee at Coffee Caboose.

This is from my view on the couch looking towards the front.

Next we went to the town's Visitor Center where we had pleasant conversation with an employee.   The porch on the back of the center overlooks the water where we had walked the evening before.

Lexington has pigs, Washington has crabs... these were located several places around town.

We then checked out their shopping district, which has several antique stores and art galleries.

This gorgeous building used to be a department store.  It now has a salon on the 1st level and antiques are sold on the 2nd level.

We walked through the salon, which you can see through the archway, to the stairs in the back.

Oh, how I want to live here!  I would love to have this in my kitchen.

Bill's Hot Dogs has been a Washington landmark since 1928.  It was mentioned in Our State magazine as one of the 10 Best Hot Dog Joints Across the State.   Of course, we had to eat there for lunch.  Their "all the way" hot dogs come with mustard and onion smeared on the bun, then a spicy white bean chili sauce topped with a red hot dog.  It was delicious.  There was no inside seating so we ate in the car where we were parked across the street.

After eating, we drove around until we found Saint Peter's Episcopal Church.  After finding a parking space on the side of the road, we walked to the church, and passed this pretty area.

Mid-afternoon, we went to Rachel K's bakery and had a blueberry tart and iced tea.  This was our last stop in the charming town of Washington.

On the way home, we passed signs for the town of Wilson.  Having never been there before, we took a little detour and stopped.

Wilson Visitor's Center is in this old bungalow.

One of the town's attractions is the Wilson Rose Garden.
